More bedside tables!

July 10, 2015 by Hayley 2 Comments

I had a great response from my post on Wednesday about bedside tables, and it seems that the struggle is real, many of you are having the same frustrating search for the perfect bedside table.

I did come across many gorgeous bedside tables in my search, many of them wouldn’t work for me, but I thought some of them may work for you, so I’m sharing 12 more of my favourites, starting from just $129!

Bedside tables can be tricky!

July 8, 2015 by Hayley 7 Comments

Is it just me? Or can finding the perfect bedside table be harder than losing weight at Christmas time?

My bed is super high, and I feel like I need a decent bedside table to balance it out, I currently use a chest of drawers each side as they are a great height and big enough to fill the space. They weren’t perfect, maybe a little large, but I was impatient and on a budget, so I bought them on a whim, changed the handles and they have lived there ever since.

I recently stumbled on a pair of stunning Xavier Cayman chests on Gumtree, I know right … I think that was every bit of good karma I’d earned for the last 10 years rolled into one lucky Gumtree find! They are the most stunning drawers, crafted from mahogany, with a bamboo detailed front, 3 drawers and slightly smaller than my Ikea ones. Oh, and don’t even get me started on the quality, they are just beautiful! They were finished in a custom grey colour that I didn’t love, but I had planned on having them re-painted in antique white and using them as my new bedsides. That was until I finally got my hands on a copy of the plans for the new house … they won’t fit, Argh!!!

Here’s the new master bedroom plan. As you can see it has a little nib wall which makes the actual room for a bed and bedsides quite small. I don’t want to remove that nib wall because it blocks the view from the bed into the walk in wardrobe, and who wants to lay in bed looking at all their clothes laying all over the floor, eek! Ultimately, I only have 3.5 metres for my bed and bedsides, my king sized bed is approximately 2m wide, leaving me 1.5 for 2 bedsides and some breathing room.

So, here are a few options I’m considering, remembering that I do need a little bit of height for them to balance the bed. The bed is 0.8m to the top of the mattress.

Weekend Facelift.

July 6, 2015 by Hayley 6 Comments

My hubby and I have another house that hasn’t been getting much attention lately. I have to admit, for someone who loves interior decorating, this house was/is quite embarrassing. It is stuck in the early 90’s somewhere with cream, apricot and terracotta everywhere you look. My gorgeous friend Michele (@michele_judd on IG) has nicknamed it ‘Apricot Central’, and is totally deserves it.

Hubby and I are finally giving it some much needed attention and being weekend warriors, like we don’t have enough going on with an impending house move in 4 weeks! Obviously we are all inspired after watching The Block and Reno Rumble, Thanks Scotty Cam!

Last week we started on the painting, when I say ‘we’, that would be – the painter started painting the interior. It has made such a difference, it always blows me away what a fresh coat of paint can do!

On the weekend we managed to get all the curtains back up that had to be taken down for the painter, remove the hideously ugly bronze terracotta backsplash in the kitchen and finish the master bedroom. We shopped our own house for furniture and moved it over there. The master bedroom is looking lovely and I’m quite pleased with our efforts.

And here’s the kitchen complete with that lovely splash back. I’m just painting, replacing the backsplash and adding some pedant lights in here. It’s not my style, but sometimes ‘money talks’ and we have to be smart where we put our dollars in this house, especially when we are working with a tiny budget.

And here’s a glimpse of what I’ve got to work with in the living spaces, Eeekkk! Obviously this is not my furniture and these are the old real estate pictures from when we bought the house.

We’re hoping to finish the kitchen and furnish the living areas this weekend.  I can’t wait to show you some more photos ……

I need a new couch …

July 3, 2015 by Hayley 2 Comments

This is the space I’ve got to work with for one of the living areas of our new home, which means our existing linen modular won’t work, OK It will, but ….. I need a new couch, or maybe two, I’d love you to help me choose!

Here is the existing space, don’t worry, that kitchen will be re worked and I’m hoping to keep the kitchen within the yellow highlighted boundaries, which leaves the rest of the area for living. The pink highlighted area is the boundaries that I need to keep the furniture within to allow enough space to walk around. Not a huge area, the entire living space is about 7.5m x 5.5m, and I really need to keep the furniture within a 4.5m x 4m area.

I’m hoping to squeeze two couches ( a 2 seater and a 3 seater) and 2 chairs in there, and a coffee table of course.

Here are some options for couches that I am pondering.

Monti | Oz Design Furniture

Paidge Sofa | West Elm

East Hampton Sofa | Coco Republic Again, the loose covers are a great option for families!

Anderson 3 seater | Freedom Furniture

What do y’all think?

Slip covered or fixed upholstery? Colours? So many decisions, so much fun!

Have you bought a new couch recently? Show me, I’d love to see!
