When I go through the process of decorating a home, one of my priorities is always to focus on designing a useable, functional and welcoming outdoor space. Having a young family means it’s extra important to create an environment that entices my kids away from screens and into the great outdoors.

Integrating safe outdoor play equipment that encourages my kids to stay active is all part of this process. My family and I recently tested the Ultra Medium Trampoline with Ladder, from Vuly Play, and were thrilled with how this versatile piece of equipment fitted into our family’s busy lifestyle.

Trampolines are not just for bouncing up and down! The kids had hours of fun coming up with imaginative games and new tricks –to test their skills on the trampoline. Project: Pop of PINK

A few years ago we went to Hawaii on a Disney Cruise, we only spent 4 days between 4 islands and as much as I wanted to shop, I wanted to see Hawaii more and time was not on my side. I remember walking past a shop and seeing a traditional Hawaiian quilt, it was hand quilted in the most beautiful pattern and it just stole my heart.

A few years later we went back to Hawaii for our best friends wedding. We had a leisurely 2 weeks this time and plenty of time for shopping. The one thing I had on my shopping list was a Hawaiian quilt. I bought handbags, I bought homewares, I bought clothes and shoes … I did not buy a quilt.

You always regret the things you didn’t buy, and I had regret!

Fast forward a couple of years and I spotted this quilt / coverlet, there was no question, I had to have it!

And so it begins … Project: Pop of PINK … I needed to create a bedroom where the pink coverlet would work. It was going to take a little bit of editing and a whole lot of adding. My bedroom was very blue … blue walls, blue rug, blue bedding, blue hued art, blue, blue, BLUE …… first up – EDIT!

I decided to start with the floor and remove the blue rug. I wanted to lay the foundation for a more neutral colour palette with a versatile, light coloured rug, which is also handy just in case the urge to change colours happens again, ha!
I wanted to switch out the art for something more appropriate to the new quilt but I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted. It was one of those – I’ll know it when I see it – ideas.
Obviously, I also removed the blue bedding to make room for the gorgeous pink coverlet.
I decided to keep the blue walls, I really love this colour and I haven’t had it long enough to get sick of it yet.

So, I’m working with a navy blue and pale pink colour palette.

Next is the fun part – ADDING …

Now, I know you’re looking at those pink ceramic lamps with all the heart eyes, which is exactly what I did when I saw them on Instagram. They stopped me in my scrolling tracks and I knew I had to have them. They are a perfect match to the quilt.

I didn’t realise how much I needed new lamps until I saw these in my bedroom, the difference they make is incredible. They soften my bedside tables with their pretty pink hue and delicate shape. The base is crafted from solid crystal, while details like the sweet finials finish them off with a timeless sophistication.

Next, the rug, I ordered this one for my daughters room and I loved it so much when it arrived I decided to try it in my room. Sorry Bella, I’m keeping it!
It’s a wool blend in a chunky textured knit design. It’s super soft under foot and the colour is a warm cream without being yellow. It has lots of flecks through it which makes it perfect to hide stains.

The art … I’m still not sure what I’m going to do here permanently but I know I’m not going to rush into an art purchase, it has to ‘speak to me’ before I buy it.

For now I’ve done something fun that fits with the Hawaiian vibe and makes me smile. I hung a collection of hats on the wall. I’ve used the 3M damage-free, removable sticky hooks so I don’t make lots of holes in the wall. I think a more curated collection of hats would look better but I worked with what I had and it only cost me $15 for the hooks. It has the tropical vibe that I’d like to achieve and is something that would be fun to add to, especially with all the gorgeous hats available these days, although it might not be too practical since I wear these hats often.

Which brings us to the bedding, the beautiful Leilani coverlet. Usually I would layer my bed with luxurious throws but I feel like the pattern on this quilt is so pretty and I didn’t want to cover it up. Instead I chose a collection of pink cushions of various sizes, shapes and textures to add some interest without detracting from the quilt design.

I had most of the cushions in my collection already, the only new addition was the luxe velvet large cushion in the blush pink, which was the size, shape and colour that I needed to pull them all together.

Whenever I’m redecorating a space like this, I like to shop my home for pieces before I buy anything new. Especially when trying to add a colour like this, I walk around my home and collect all the items I own in that shade, then put them all together to give me options.

I didn’t have very much in this beautiful blush pink, but the addition of a few book and decorative items is enough to repeat the colour and tie it all together. I picked up the gorgeous pink glass knot the same day I bought the quilt because I knew I would need a few decor items to compliment it. Isn’t it sweet, it’s one of my favourite little pieces.

Just a few changes makes such a difference!

Meet Troy …

I have a new boyfriend!
Yes, I am married but my husband approves of Troy, actually my husband loves Troy too.
Troy is tough and strong, dependable and reliable and exceptionally good looking.
Troy is our new washing machine, the Electrolux UltimateCare 800 series from Betta Home Living.

I wanted to share him with you because I understand buying a washing machine is a big investment and sometimes all those specifications and functions can be confusing. Do I need SensorWash technology? What is an UltraMix system? What is the Vapour feature? And why do I need a powerful spin speed?
I’m going to tell you what is important to me in a washing machine and why I chose Troy.

SIZE
We are a family of five, between work clothes, school uniforms, sports gear, 4 beds and the 758 towels my kids use every week, I do at least a dozen loads of washing per week. A large drum size is important, I’d rather do one big load that 2 small loads. Troy has a 9kg stainless steel drum with an extra large door opening, making loading and unloading easy and the extra visibility means no stray socks get left behind!

ENERGY & WATER EFFICIENCY
Yes you do need the SensorWash technology. It minimises water & energy use and saves precious time, the smart sensors automatically detect the soil and detergent levels to adjust the washing times for optimal, energy efficient results that reduces unnecessary wear on fabrics. It helps keep your whites whiter and your blacks blacker.

Troy ticked all the boxes for me, but there’s one more thing that made me take the plunge with him, he’s exceptionally good looking! The classic white with dark blue trim, I can’t think of any other washing machine that I’d rather have in my home.

My laundry has always been a little ‘vanilla’. It’s never been a space that I’ve found any inspiration, or had any desire to decorate, until now. The blue and white colour of the machine tempted me to clean out the crap, hang some curtains and make it a place where I WANT to be rather than a place where I HAVE to be.
Who knew Troy would inspire a pretty laundry, look after our clothes, save us money and generally make my life easier …

Mother’s Day 2019

That’s why I’ve put together a gift guide with something for every Mum.
I’ve selected gifts for the Mum’s that love pretty things, the Mum’s that choose comfort, the Mum’s who are practical and the Mum’s who already have everything …

Mother’s Day in Australia is on the second Sunday in May, its Autumn and the weather is starting to get cooler, which makes it perfect timing to buy her some luxurious layers for Winter style. Think scarves, hats, bags or sleepwear.I’ve hunted down the pretty, the comfortable and the practical.

I love the colour palette of this check scarf, it super soft and big enough to double as a throw. The pom pom on the beanie had me at hello, who doesn’t love a big fluffy pom pom! And the french style purse (see below for a view of the inside) is the perfect size in the best shade of caramel.

If Mum is more of a pink girl, I found a gorgeous blush felt hat which is perfect to protect her from the winter sun, while also looking super stylish. The gorgeous grey bag (my Mums Mother’s Day gift, Shhh) is crafted from a buttery soft leather with antique brass hardware and those tassels are so fun! The pink star scarf is a gorgeous match to complete her accessories.

Does your Mum like a little bit of sparkle? This combo is just what she needs. The metallic spotty scarf is light and versatile with just the right amount of sparkle. While the phone holder in rose gold metallic is ideal to keep the essentials safe in a comfortable cross body or long strap style.

Slippers are one of the best go-to gifts for Mother’s Day, my Mum looks forward to a new pair each year. Have a look at what your Mum is currently wearing to decide what type of slippers to get her, you might like a slip-on type while your Mum might like a loafer or a boot. My Mum likes a boot type slipper and needs extra support after some foot problems, I chose a pair from Vionic as they are podiatrist designed for extra support. While I was there I also grabbed a pair for myself because hello … they are plush leopard print in my style – a relaxed slipper.

EXTRA BROWNIE POINTS – Watch a movie with Mum, make her a cup of tea and let her choose the movie.

While we are talking slippers, you might also want to consider some sleepwear. I personally love a pretty cotton nightie and while I love a simple white nightie, I really love the floral print on this one.

Pair it with a sweet teacup, a vase of beautiful blooms, a candle in her favourite scent and a beautiful book to make it a complete gift experience.

EXTRA BROWNIE POINTS – Make her a breakfast tray with her favourite tea and then let her stay in bed as long as she likes.

If your Mum is a bit of a coffee connoisseur, consider getting her a new coffee machine. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen my old pod style machine die a little while ago, I replaced it with an amazing automatic machine that grinds the beans, froths the milk and makes the coffee all at the touch of a button. It is super easy to use and look after, I thought my old style pod machine was good, but this … THIS IS AMAZING!

EXTRA BROWNIE POINTS – Make Mum a cup of coffee and magically make the house silent for at least half an hour!

The plush pink loungewear is my Mother’s Day gift to myself, it is so soft and snugly, the only problem is my daughter keeps ‘borrowing’ mine.

A classic Mother’s Day gift for good reason, it’s always a winner – get her some bubble bath or scented soaps. These have the prettiest packaging and they smell just as gorgeous as they look.

EXTRA BROWNIE POINTS – For the ultimate bliss, pop on some music, light a candle and pour her a glass of wine or champagne and let her soak the day away.

For the practical Mum, gift her some luxurious housekeeping products. I love this beautiful bench spray and hand wash, they are scented using Australian bush oils and are available in a range of unique scents.

If your Mum is a baker, how about the gift that keeps on giving. I recently got a kitchen mixer and I absolutely love it. Trust me, she’ll love it so much she’ll find any excuse to use it and you’ll have cakes and cookies because it’s Tuesday, okay, maybe that’s just me.
Pair it with some cake mixes and some fancy cake tins and she’ll never leave the kitchen!

If your Mum appreciates the finer things in life, consider gifting her a beautiful tea set. You could buy the whole set or just a few pieces for each occasion until she has the whole collection. I love this collection inspired by the Quinsai Gardens with its exotic flowers in delicate and pretty colours, there are peonies, camelias, magnolias and chrysanthemums. Each bloom has a deeper meaning, for example the magnolia shows special respect for beautiful women, what could be more perfect as a Mother’s Day gift?

CHEEKY TIP – Choose a tea set that you love too, then cross your fingers your Mum hands it down to you one day!

Lastly, this is always one of my favourite gifts to put together – a basket full of goodies. I love finding a stylish big basket and filling it with lots of little gifts that I know Mum will love.

I know my own Mother loves receiving candles, flower seeds, chocolates and handmade trinkets from the kids.
