Our house in Queensland Homes magazine!

It’s true!
Our house is in the Spring/Summer 2018/19 edition of Queensland Homes.
See more here.

It was photographed by John Downs. He in one of four generations in his family who are, or have been, professional photographers, so you could say it’s in his blood. His work is broad and he photographs people, products, architecture, food, motor bikes, houses and more.
His work has been published by Home Beautiful (he shot my last home, you can see it here), House & Garden and Queensland Homes, to name just a few.
If you think your house would look good on the glossy pages of a magazine, you can send John a few snapshots at johndownsstudio@hotmail.com and he’ll contact you if he’d like to do a test shoot.

The lovely Kylie Jackes styled our home for the shoot and wrote the article, she’s multi-talented!
Kylie is a regular contributor to interior magazines including Home Beautiful and Queensland Homes. She was absolutely lovely and wanted to keep the styling as authentic to our home as possible which I really appreciated.

The article looks great, but of course not all the photos made it to the glossy pages. John was kind enough to share them with me so I can show them to you.

Let’s start with cuteness overload from Holly, we all know that’s the real reason that our house made it into a magazine!

I always loved those photos in magazines of the home owner casually walking through the kitchen in a blur. Now I have one of my own, ha!

Another few of the kitchen because after a 3 month renovation it deserves a little spotlight!

Moving on to the dining room where they published a beautiful picture of my eldest daughter Lucy setting the table. I’m so glad they chose the shot with Lucy in it, it’s one of my favourites!

Moving upstairs, I know you’ve all seen my bedroom a thousand times, but I really like the angle that John took this photo from, and those hydrangeas were so pretty!

Kylie even managed to style my bathroom to look halfway decent, I’d love to renovate them! My ensuite is such a great size, I could have so much fun in there!

And Orly in his room. I’m not looking forward to the day that he grows out of this bed and decor, it’s so fun!

Lastly a couple of shots outside. As you can see from the wet umbrella, it was a grey overcast day and the minute the rain cleared we all ran outside for a quick pic. Kylie styled up this space like a pro so quickly, unfortunately there was no time to style myself, so I’m in my Mum uniform of jeans and a mum bun in the magazine … oh well #keepingitreal

Gloria’s granddaughters house …

As promised … presenting the incredible home of half of the Gloria Linen and Home team.

This stunning little cottage is nestled in the hinterland at Montville on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland, Australia. Our shy owner worked with the the gorgeous girls at Highgate House to complete this project.

When our owner found the property it was not the beautiful space you see today, but she could see the potential and engaged Leigh Boswell from Highgate House to make her vision a reality.

And doesn’t it look amazing!

Lets start with the master suite. I love the gentle colour palette of white, browns and duck egg blue. It is relaxed and serene, but still packs a punch with the statement mirror and custom made roman blinds, that fabric is dreamy!

The cabinetry is stunning. The beautiful design with the mirror back was all custom made and doesn’t it look incredible?

The living space is finished in the same gentle colour palette as the bedroom which makes the little cottage flow beautifully. It is a small space, but it has everything you need without compromising on style.

Off the living area is this delightful little dining area complete with banquette seating and two statement chairs. The singular chairs have open backs that allow the space to feel open, but they also have a graphic design that acts as another piece of interest in the room.

And finally the kitchen, wow, just wow!

The lovely cast iron setting on the deck was a lucky Gumtree find that was re-powdercoated to bring it back to it’s former glory.

OMG, OMG, OMG … It’s here!!!

Yes, I am a little bit excited! Pottery Barn, PB Kids and West Elm are in my hood, Squeeee!!!!

Three of the world’s most successful and stylish furniture and home wares stores have moved in to a fabulous big retail space in Brisbane’s hip James Street.

If you’ve been living under a rock and haven’t heard of them, let me introduce you.

Pottery Barn is a global retailer of high quality products for your home. Their range is primarily based around comfort, quality and style. I have been a huge fan of Pottery Barn since I discovered it on our travels back in 2005, I remember hearing about this place called ‘Pottery Barn’ on the TV sitcom ‘Friends’ and when I saw a store in Los Angeles I ventured in out of curiosity. Oh my, it was filled with gorgeous glass lanterns, shiny silver table ware, plush sofas and the most beautiful bed linens I had ever seen (that I could actually afford). And so it began, my love affair with Pottery Barn. From that day on every time we travelled I spent hours oohing and aahing in every Pottery Barn and Pottery Barn Kids we came across. I would buy anything that I could fit in my suitcase, and sometimes more than would fit, I have had to purchase an extra suitcase a couple of times!

More recently I have discovered West Elm. I feel it is a bit younger, a bit hip and it moves with the times. I love it for buying on trend items. Currently they have a great range of brass, marble and beautiful linen bedding, the price point is very affordable and the quality is great!

I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek with the media launch before opening time. There was red carpet, coffee, croissants, cookies and a ribbon cutting ceremony. But more exciting than that was the feeling in the air, the feeling that PB wasn’t just moving into our city, but moving into our community. They have utilised the skills of our local talent for the front of the counter in the West Elm store. It was hand made by local, Kylie from Paper Boat Press, you really must check it out next time your there, it is incredible. West Elm have also put the call out to local handcrafted creators to take their wares to the Brisbane store on October the 10th (this Saturday) to be reviewed and get a chance at being part of their monthly pop up stores. I love that they are supporting our little and local talent!

I also really enjoyed the styling sessions they had running in store. I felt inspired after watching Kara Rosenlund work her magic styling a coffee table. She made it look so simple!

I snapped these shots for you to get an idea of the incredible range of goodies, but truly, I would break my website if I tried to upload all the beautiful furniture and home decor they have to offer. You really must pop in when you have a chance! It’s worth a look just to see the beautiful styling, the room displays and little vignettes everywhere you turn. The shop fit-out is absolutely incredible too, just wait till you see the giant set of barn doors when you walk into the Pottery Barn entry. Grab a girlfriend, or take your Mum and make a day of it!

For the love of elephants!

A couple of weeks ago I did a post all about whales, and I mentioned I also had a soft spot for elephants.

When I was a little, my family called elephants oomph-a-loomphs. I have no idea if it was because I couldn’t pronounce it, or if it was from a childhood book, or if my family was just plain weird (hmmm … maybe). It has never occurred to me to ask my Mum or Dad why, an elephant was just called a oomph-a-loomph, and that was that.

It seems many of you love elephants too, so I’m sharing all my favourite elephant pieces today.
