Project: Pop of PINK

A few years ago we went to Hawaii on a Disney Cruise, we only spent 4 days between 4 islands and as much as I wanted to shop, I wanted to see Hawaii more and time was not on my side. I remember walking past a shop and seeing a traditional Hawaiian quilt, it was hand quilted in the most beautiful pattern and it just stole my heart.

A few years later we went back to Hawaii for our best friends wedding. We had a leisurely 2 weeks this time and plenty of time for shopping. The one thing I had on my shopping list was a Hawaiian quilt. I bought handbags, I bought homewares, I bought clothes and shoes … I did not buy a quilt.

You always regret the things you didn’t buy, and I had regret!

Fast forward a couple of years and I spotted this quilt / coverlet, there was no question, I had to have it!

Project: Pop Of Pink bedroom @mumlittleloves

And so it begins … Project: Pop of PINK … I needed to create a bedroom where the pink coverlet would work. It was going to take a little bit of editing and a whole lot of adding. My bedroom was very blue … blue walls, blue rug, blue bedding, blue hued art, blue, blue, BLUE …… first up – EDIT!

I decided to start with the floor and remove the blue rug. I wanted to lay the foundation for a more neutral colour palette with a versatile, light coloured rug, which is also handy just in case the urge to change colours happens again, ha!
I wanted to switch out the art for something more appropriate to the new quilt but I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted. It was one of those – I’ll know it when I see it – ideas.
Obviously, I also removed the blue bedding to make room for the gorgeous pink coverlet.
I decided to keep the blue walls, I really love this colour and I haven’t had it long enough to get sick of it yet.

So, I’m working with a navy blue and pale pink colour palette.

Next is the fun part – ADDING …

Now, I know you’re looking at those pink ceramic lamps with all the heart eyes, which is exactly what I did when I saw them on Instagram. They stopped me in my scrolling tracks and I knew I had to have them. They are a perfect match to the quilt.

Project: Pop Of Pink bedroom @mumlittleloves

I didn’t realise how much I needed new lamps until I saw these in my bedroom, the difference they make is incredible. They soften my bedside tables with their pretty pink hue and delicate shape. The base is crafted from solid crystal, while details like the sweet finials finish them off with a timeless sophistication.

Next, the rug, I ordered this one for my daughters room and I loved it so much when it arrived I decided to try it in my room. Sorry Bella, I’m keeping it!
It’s a wool blend in a chunky textured knit design. It’s super soft under foot and the colour is a warm cream without being yellow. It has lots of flecks through it which makes it perfect to hide stains.

The art … I’m still not sure what I’m going to do here permanently but I know I’m not going to rush into an art purchase, it has to ‘speak to me’ before I buy it.

Project: Pop Of Pink bedroom @mumlittleloves

For now I’ve done something fun that fits with the Hawaiian vibe and makes me smile. I hung a collection of hats on the wall. I’ve used the 3M damage-free, removable sticky hooks so I don’t make lots of holes in the wall. I think a more curated collection of hats would look better but I worked with what I had and it only cost me $15 for the hooks. It has the tropical vibe that I’d like to achieve and is something that would be fun to add to, especially with all the gorgeous hats available these days, although it might not be too practical since I wear these hats often.

Which brings us to the bedding, the beautiful Leilani coverlet. Usually I would layer my bed with luxurious throws but I feel like the pattern on this quilt is so pretty and I didn’t want to cover it up. Instead I chose a collection of pink cushions of various sizes, shapes and textures to add some interest without detracting from the quilt design.

I had most of the cushions in my collection already, the only new addition was the luxe velvet large cushion in the blush pink, which was the size, shape and colour that I needed to pull them all together.

Whenever I’m redecorating a space like this, I like to shop my home for pieces before I buy anything new. Especially when trying to add a colour like this, I walk around my home and collect all the items I own in that shade, then put them all together to give me options.

I didn’t have very much in this beautiful blush pink, but the addition of a few book and decorative items is enough to repeat the colour and tie it all together. I picked up the gorgeous pink glass knot the same day I bought the quilt because I knew I would need a few decor items to compliment it. Isn’t it sweet, it’s one of my favourite little pieces.

Just a few changes makes such a difference!
What do you think of my pop of pink?
Are you tempted to change something or add a pop of colour to your space?

My Last Minute (don’t panic) gifts for EVERYONE!

Flashback to yesterday … I was PANICKING!

I am usually THAT person that has everything beautifully wrapped in pretty papers and perfectly paired ribbons, placed under the tree with care and ready for Christmas by the first week in December.

Yes, I am usually THAT person that everyone does massive eye rolls at while they are loaded with coffee, armed with their shopping list and battling the crowd during midnight shopping hours.

This year, I am NOT that person!

Yesterday, I wrote out my list and cleared my calendar for the entire day to shop, I had 12 hours of uninterrupted shopping hours to get it done.
Yes, I was panicked, but I was a lady on a mission!

I started at the stores that have something for everyone, Pottery Barn, Pottery Barn Kids and West Elm and I took you all with me in my Insta-stories, which is what brought me here … It seems I am not alone and the messages started flooding in –
What one is that?
What size does that come in?
Does that come in another colour?
Is that available online?
Do I still have time to order online?

Because we all know I believe sharing is caring, here I am, sharing all my last-minute gifts complete with links direct to the website for you to shop.

Let’s Go!

Starting with one of my favourite gifts for just about anyone – a lantern, pair it with a beautiful candle and tie it with a bow, no wrapping required!
I couldn’t pick just one, so here’s a few that I love, but really, they are all gorgeous.

I’ve never met anyone who doesn’t love a snugly blanket!
The Cosy Pom Pom throw was actually on my 16 year old daughters Christmas list, one of her friends has one and she was raving on about how soft it is, then she came in store with me and made me feel it … we bought it and now I’m the one raving on about how soft it is. It’s seriously softer than any blanket I have ever felt before!

Christmas is entertaining season, buy one of your friends some bar tools and let them make you cocktails, it’s a win win!
I love this one finished in nickel with gorgeous leather accents.

Monogram everything I say! These vintage print mugs are fun and easy to gift to just about anyone on your list.

For your funky friend or family member who has everything – I bet they don’t have a salad plate with a shark sporting a bikini? I have one of these awesome plates hung on my wall, but they are equally as fun to eat from.

Dapper Animal Salad Plates

For the plant lover, these terrariums and planters would make a gorgeous gift paired with some fresh plants. Try some succulents or a fluffy fern.

You can add to their collection every year with everything from awesome outfits to doll size furniture and even a horse stable and pony!

I hope that has answered all your questions!

Here’s a few more things I found while scrolling the websites that may have just jumped in my cart, or are currently on my wish list.

This jumped in my cart … because you can only get it at Christmas so you simply must make the most of it!
I know y’all go crazy for the Peppermint Bark and I get it, it’s pretty good …. but the TOFFEE!
The Toffee is something else and I may have just ordered 2 tins that I will be hiding and not sharing with anyone, yes I’m greedy like that!

Williams Sonoma Handcrafted Toffee

On my wish list … because I want to feel like I’m in a fancy hotel everyday!

Hotel Piped Trim Robe

And lastly, on my wish list … because everyone loves a good vase. I adore the organic feel of this range that is crafted by hand inn terracotta and finished with wrought iron handles.

So here’s the low down –
The cut off for online orders to be received by Christmas is midday 21st December (Friday) for small parcel deliveries to Metro Sydney, Melbourne  and Brisbane only,
You can shop in store until Christmas Eve with FREE gift wrapping.

Oh, and remember how I said I had 12 hours of kid free, uninterrupted shopping time … I got my list ticked off in just a couple of hours!
Do you think I went home to the kids?
No way, I made the most of those hours of bliss! I sat in cafes and sipped coffee, went out to lunch with my daughter and went clothes shopping, because I always need another pretty dress!

Happy Shopping!

Why you NEED to invest in a white dinner set…

Yep, I said need … not want, not should, not would … NEED!

Lucky for you, I have found the perfect white tableware …

Introducing Leila from Pottery Barn.
Isn’t she lovely! I love her fluted edge and rustic beading. She is hand glazed which gives her a lovely handmade feel. This set is perfect for everyday use, but also charming enough for more festive or formal occasions.

A white dinner set is an absolute necessity, everyone should have one.

I feel pretty strongly about this, and I’m not only going to tell you why, I’m going to show you why. Pottery Barn have given me all the fabulous bits and pieces to style up a few different table settings to show y’all.

But firstly, here’s one of the best reasons to go white …
Food looks better on a white background, yep, it just does. So, if you’re a fabulous chef, then let your food shine on a white dinner plate. Or, if like me, you’re not the best cook, a clean white plate makes your food look so much better. #winning

White goes with everything. You can mix it with any table linen that takes your fancy, or you can layer it with accent plates, your Nanna’s vintage pieces or those super expensive plates that your still collecting, but only have 4.

It is suitable for every occasion, let me show you ….

For a dinner party.

I started with a beautiful crisp white tablecloth, then layered it with lashings of antique silver accessories, sparkling glassware and a shimmering candle votive. Finish with fresh white flowers.

* Everything pictured here is from Pottery Barn’s current range. If I haven’t provided a link to a product that you like, it’s probably sold out online, but may still be available in store. So here’s what you need to do – put your running shoes on and get yourself down to your local Pottery Barn, then cross your fingers they still have one left in store. If they don’t, never fear, I’m sure you’ll find something equally as gorgeous.
